Five Years is a Long Time

Five years ago I opened Raven Patents with the belief that I could do good work for my clients as a solo practitioner. That was a big step, and it took a lot of thinking, and a lot of planning of how best to proceed. Eventually I gave my notice at the firm where I'd worked for nearly 20 years, rented an office, and completed all the paperwork necessary to create a new business.

While I do not regret my decision in the slightest, this has been a tough journey at times. I've made mistakes, plenty of them, but at the same time I feel that I've been able to do some good work, maybe even my best work, for the folks that have entrusted their patent applications to my care.

I'm starting this blog here on my website because I've had to make another tough decision. I've deleted my account on LinkedIn. I've been gradually deleting all my social media accounts as it became clear that the major social networks did not share my values. LinkedIn was the last one to fall, mostly because so many folks said you had to have an account there if you wanted to run a business. Unfortunately I did not agree with certain changes that LinkedIn has made to their community guidelines which will make it easier to attack and exclude folks based upon their sexual identity. I'm not comfortable supporting such a position, and since I can no longer post content there, I will do so here.

I'm not at all sure how often I will post. I don't believe this blog will have many readers. However, I can at least direct my own clients here when I feel I have something valuable to share.

Thank you.
